Happy Birthday Northern Grid! 10 years old!

Northern Grid is celebrating being 10 years old. We were established in 1999 as the first Regional Broadband Consortium. Set up as a partnership of Local Authorities in the North East our role is to provide broadband to schools along with services and content.
There have been many achievements since then and full details can be found on our website but highlights include:
- Website launched by Tony Blair
- Innovative resources created by teachers for teachers
- All schools connected to fast, reliable, affordable broadband connections
- Connection to the National Education Network
- E Safety and E Security services, guidance and policies
- Sharing of best practice in the region and beyond

Microsoft’s new search engine Bing and e-safety

We are aware that some users have reported concerns about the security of Bing. Microsoft has provided Northern Grid with information relating to using Bing safely in school and at home.

Microsoft DreamSpark – free software for pupils

DreamSpark provides any student with professional-level developer and design tools at no charge. Schools can register on behalf of their students so they can access these resources. For more details click here.

On Friday 26th June, 200 delegates attended the Northern Grid conference. The keynotes and workshops showcased the excellent work that is happening in the region with presenters from schools and LAs. For more information, links, gallery and presentation click here.
