Lost Generation
ICT and History Secondary - Winner
Sponsored by:

Churchill College, North Tyneside, won this category
Created by: This was a teacher award and the entry was submitted by Chris Wilde. The project involved year 9 students.
Packages used: Front Page MS Word Wikipedia and various websites Audacity Channel 4 Clipbank and Revelation Sight and Sound
Objectives: This was a four week homework project which culminated in an afternoon at one of our local CLCs. We have a paperless system for homework using our VLE and we used this to allow pupils to access and hand in their homework. We decided that a good final piece for a project would be a video and decided to create a unit using the Commonwealth War Graves search engine.
Pupils were given guidance for their research using a web page with hyperlinks to various sites and text input fields where they could store the information about their soldier's regiment, when he died and the battle he died in. This information then led to a written presentation of their findings. Research was completed over a four week period and work was checked and comments added by the teacher using our VLE's paperless Homework system.

The award was presented by Mel Philipson.
With the presentation written we then spent an afternoon at our local CLC where the pupils downloaded their presentations from the VLE and spoke them into a microphone which recorded their presentation as an MP3, after guidance on the software program Audacity. They then looked at the various video resources available through our LEA's subscription to Channel 4 Clipbank. They found videos that would tie into their presentation and earmarked them. Then the pupils were given guidance on how to create presentations in Revelations Sight and Sound.
When the video presentations were completed they were added to our Streaming Media Server and made available to the entire school community via the VLE.

The winner with the sponsor of the prize.
