In 2006/7 Northern Grid invited schools to bid for funding to support projects they were running in schools. These projects needed to use ICT and broadband to support teaching and learning. The successful schools have completed their projects. The links below lead to reports on the projects and support materials produced by each school.
Hedworthfield, South Tyneside – Romans on the Tyne
Video, digital images, drama and writing to describe the impact of the Roman rule in South Shields. Video conferencing with a school in North Tyneside and link with Arbeia and Segedunum Roman sites.
Huntcliff School, Redcar and Cleveland – Developing Student GeneeUs
GeneeUs is an innovational 21st century voting system, using student handsets operating on a radio frequency, providing instant assessment and feedback to students. The project will create interactive resources to support assessment for learning in Key Stages 3 and 4 for the Humanities Specialism (particularly Geography and History).
Huntcliff School, Redcar and Cleveland – Hatipods – History and Technology: Podcasting
Gifted & Talented students involved in 2 History Clubs (one for Year 7 and one for Year 8) will create their own podcasts about local history. They will research the history of Saltburn as a Victorian coastal resort, select key information about places of interest, and create a web based (printable) resource about Saltburn highlighting these. To accompany the web based resource they will produce downloadable podcasts so that these can be listened to / viewed on-line or downloaded and used by anybody completing a tour of the area.
Lingdale Primary, Redcar and Cleveland – Primary Podcasts
Project covers aspects of - Speaking and Listening, Literacy and History. The school will make use of Audio Networks, podcasts will be available on the school website

The schools are:
- Springwell School, Hartlepool worked on transport resources for PMLD, SLD and KS1 pupils to use with a whiteboard.
- Middlesbrough EIC produced resources for pupils with SEN who are Gifted and Talented in the area of Maths
- Billingham Campus School, Stockton Students developed Multimedia Science resources. Resources were produced during science lessons, ICT lessons and in an after school ICT club.
- Saltburn Primary School, Redcar and Cleveland Y6 pupils worked with their teacher to develop video filming skills and then disseminate these via pupil produced multimedia resources.
- Huntcliff School, Redcar and Cleveland History department worked on developing interactive resources to support revision for KS4 exam topics
All of the schools wrote detailed action plans and worked closely with Northern Grid.
