If you had been able to invest in some of the most prestigious projects in history, how successful do you think you would have been? Would you have become the owner of a mansion in the countryside or have ended up in a debtor's prison? Risks and Rewards offers you and your pupils the chance to find out!

It's not often that students get to risk millions of pounds! Here, on E2BN's Risks and Rewards site, they can do just that. Well, not REAL pounds, but near enough to let them find out the risks and rewards of high finance.

Today, we are all too aware of the perils of the financial world, and how it can impact on all our lives. But how much do we really know about it? How has it shaped our present-day way of life? How does it all work? What does it feel like to be an investor of huge sums of money?

These are things students will find fascinating to learn about, and it's important that they do. After all, finance lies at the very heart of the way the modern world ticks. There is a growing body of opinion that financial understanding is of great importance to children's education. Indeed at the time of writing, an e-petition demanding that financial education becomes a compulsory part of the curriculum has received the requisite 100,000 signatures to bring this issue before parliament and begin the debate.

The Gallery is a great resource with over 35,000 images, videos and sounds for use in the classroom. But we want to make it even better by increasing the number and range of images available and for this we need your help.

Each term we are looking for images based on one or two of the themes and we are asking you and your students to take and upload images based on those themes.

We’ll publish all the images that are suitable, i.e. are good high resolution images that are appropriate to the theme and are suitable for inclusion on an educational site. And each term, for each theme, we’ll nominate the best image per age group to go forward to the national final. Each finalist will receive a large, high quality, framed print of their image.

The NEN Gallery is a versatile resource for use across the curriculum. Over the last few months E2BN has been adding a whole new range of functionality so now it's even better and faster to use

A faster and more flexible Gallery

The latest upgrade to the Gallery sees faster upload and download speeds, better searching facilities and other new features such as picture of the day, links allowing you to share images or recommend good resources you have found. You can also see the latest pictures uploaded and more resources will shortly be added to an expanded teacher's area. For those that would like to embed the Gallery into their own Learning Platforms or other website, a new customisable widget has been developed: the Gallery embed widget allows users colour of albums and folders and then copy some code and embed it in their own site. Once embedded the widget draws the selected folders and images from the Gallery for display anywhere on the web.

This is a great opportunity on this notable date to videoconference with the National Space Centre and the National History Museum; to look at the changes from day to night and why this happens. Each videoconferencing session will last 45 minutes with 15 minutes for questions and answers from pupils.

Schools will be asked to register their interest in the whole morning but will be able to join and leave at any point or bring in children of different key stages to the different sessions. Schools will be able to ask questions of the presenters via VC or in the online forum at www.nightandday.embc.uk.com

The Regional Broadband Consortia (RBCs) are using MTN, a DFEs-funded project, to facilitate creativity within the curriculum. MTN is a UK web based school news station, created for schools by East of England Broadband Network (E2BN) and the Knowledge Media Institute (KMI) of the Open University.
