British Pathe Archive ~ Examples of Work
Teachers from the Northern Grid region have been working with the British Pathe resources. They have produced examples showing what the resources can be used for. On this page you can find examples of the work they did. The examples include lesson plans and clips they have produced, as well as links to the British Pathe files they used.
The project involved all key stages and a number of different subject areas. In some instances the teachers used the original British Pathe clips as a stimulus to introduce new topics. In other cases the clips were edited either by the teacher or by pupils.
Most of the schools used Movie Maker 2 to edit the clips. This is a free piece of software for use with Window XP. It can be downloaded from:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/moviemaker2.mspx
Teachers found this software easy to use and pupils from Key Stages 1 to 4 were able to learn how to use it.
All the teachers enjoyed the project and believed the work benefited their pupils. They described how British Pathe was a cross curricular resource which promoted creativity, concentration and motivation. They also talked about how using the resource could address the different learning style.
As part of the project some schools were able to work with John Davitt. He was able to give them more ideas about how to use digital video in the classroom. For more information visit his website.
