Coquet
High School have used Seed to Saw within their studies at
GNVQ
level and have written two Units of Accreditation as follows:
- Forestry and Timber in the General Curriculum Area
of Geography and the Specific Curriculum Area of Geography/Humanities.
- Jobs with Wood in the General Curriculum Area of PSE and
the Specific Curriculum Area of Careers Guidance.
Forestry and Timber
For
this Unit of Accreditation, students studied and provided evidence of their
knowledge of:

- the forestry industry
- timber production
- the differences between coniferous
and deciduous trees


- soft and hardwoods produced
in the UK
- forestry jobs

- peoples views of forestry

- the change of attitudes to
forests as a leisure facility over time

- processes involved in timber
production and problems encountered

Students
demonstrated the ability to:
- contribute to a class display
on forestry
- produced graphs to display forestry
data

- use a web site to obtain information
on forestry and timber

For
this Unit of Accreditation, students studied and provided evidence of their

careers in the forestry and timber industry

- their ability to use careers guidance
sheets to assess the skills needed for the chosen job
- their ability to use KUDOS or
similar careers program to get occupational information and print out
materials
- obtain key points from a careers
