An Entry

School:
Abbey Infant School

Name:
"What did you do at school today? Keeping stakeholders in the loop "

Packages Used:
Netmedia Learning Platform

Objectives:
  • To keep parents informed of pupil activities
  • Enable pupils to work out of hours
  • Extend the classroom
  • Enable engaging group-working with teaching assistants
  • Extend school governance via paperless working.

Information:

Process involved a learning platform champion in the school staff being identified to work with a local authority eLearning consultant to develop personal skills. The LA Officer initiated sustainable training (team teaching, demonstration lessons, staff meeting input etc) then the platform champion took over, developing her MyClass environment and involving parents in after-school information meetings.

All reception pupils were given log-ins, leading to working with their federated junior school "email buddies" to develop their email communication skills. The champion then lef staff sessions, showing time and workload benefits of sharing modules of work across teams and gave informal drop-in sessions for staff who needed more support.

Pupils are now driving the project with an expectation that work will be on the platform for them to share with parents. Particularly successful were stories and activities able to be shared with parents, so instead of individually working on their learning platform at home, it has brought parent and child together. Governors have been involved with remote administration for file-storage, information transfer and events calendars (now taken up by Local Authority Governor Development Unit).
