What Happened

The foundation stage moved with the new build from separate nursery and reception units each with a smart board into a new foundation stage unit which was initially set up with the two smart boards, one of which has been replaced with a plasma screen as part of the LA project.

Lesley Nelson the classroom assistant has a keen interest in ICT and has undertaken ICT training at Trent University. She has been instrumental in developing customised ICT resources for use by the pupils with the smart board and plasma screen.

The aim of the staff was to make the use of ICT transparent and familiar to the pupils so they could focus on the role plays in which they were participating. This was focussed on the smart board technologies but also included use of audio CDs , digital camera, DigiBlue video camera and photocopier by the pupils.

Lesley has developed a range of modules for different roleplays including minibeasts where the role play area becomes a laboratory, gym time where the area becomes a health club, future photographers where the area becomes a photo studio, travel agents where the pupils book a holiday etc.

Pupils use the equipment independently and access a range of technology to produce images, printouts and other media. See images below for examples.
