World War I – An Infantryman’s Diary
William Falcus was born in Sandyford, Newcastle, on 6 June 1892. In 1913 he emigrated to Canada and in June 1915, aged 23, he enlisted with 63rd Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force at Edmonton. By June 1916 he was fighting on the Western Front and wounded twice. William returned to Canada in 1919 with his new English wife, Marjorie. He died in 1964.
William’s
diary was donated to Tyne and Wear Archive Service by his family. The reference
number is TWAS DX 228: Papers relating to the Military Service of Sgt. William
Falcus (1892 – 1964).
