Literacy

There are many ways in which ICT can be used to support literacy. Its use can be of great benefit to both pupils and teachers. This site aims to give an overview of those benefits as well as examples of activities linked to The National Literacy Strategy. There are many different activities and it is not intended that they should all be used or that they should only be used in the form that they are available in here. The aim is for teachers to be able to see what is possible and be able to adapt and prepare their own resources. To promote this, the section on software includes some help sheets showing how some of the resources in this scheme have been produced. Most of the activities are intended to support work in the literacy hour and are therefore short tasks. Some of them are extended tasks which would be used as part of the class topic work. We are aware that there are great differences in the provision of ICT equipment and the amount of time individual children will have access to computers.

Football Project

In addition to the resources listed further down this page, a new literacy project with a football focus and aimed at KS2/3 is being developed for 2002.

Although not yet complete activities from the project can already be sampled on this site. Please click here.

The project will be highly interactive in the form of a game. Players will have to complete activities in order to build up their team.

These activities will be linked to the National Literacy Strategy text level work, providing stimulus for whole class introductions, individual short tasks to be completed at the computer and longer tasks to be completed away from the computer.

Video clips of actual matches and archive material will be used. The game will end with a simulated match.

The project is being developed with the involvement of a group of teachers drawn from the region and also local poet Andy Croft.
