Plan
Introduce the subject and show the student some examples of packaging. The students will have to understand that although we may manage to negotiate with Food Technology to make some cookies to package that we will only be able to make an empty drink carton.
Hygiene will have to be covered.
Ingredients will need to be listed on the box, weight in Kg, volume in litres and of course the bar code. Add to this the name of the product and what it is and the necessity for protection and we have a project worthy of them. The containers will have to be able to be stacked so a number of them would fit in a box for distribution.
The students should design a number of packages for their chosen foodstuff and pick the best. They should then start work on the project. There is a necessity to either decide on the size of the cookie and make them to this size or make some cookies and measure them. Card discs could be used as model cookies. The required volume of a drink container will have to be calculated.
Once the chosen design has been finalised and the size of the cookies or drink capacity determined the student may make the final container.
Drinks containers will be assembled dry and cookie packages will have the contents in cling film, greaseproof paper or a plastic bag prior to sealing.
