Plan
Discuss the sorts of foodstuffs that birds like. List them on the board. Select from these the best to use, and why, when filling a bird feeder.
There should be provision for gripping the container or perching and the container should be able to be sited in a place if not free from cats, then safe from them. Keeping the food clean and the ease of filling should also be considered.
The students should sketch a number of possible feeders perhaps referring to the materials on display while they do so. The students should produce a final design and work plan.
The students may now begin construction. Assistance, individual or group will be available as required.
The completed feeders may be tested in a quiet area of the school grounds and any required modifications noted in files.
