Plan
Introduce the project by describing what we will be doing, i.e. making a plug from MDF to a shape generated by the student, using a scribble pattern. The shape will be transferred onto the MDF and then cut out by the student using a coping saw.
The shape will be filed and sanded to provide some draw so that the plug can be withdrawn from the moulding.
The student will also cut out the initials, from card and stick them onto the tapered end of the plug.
Holes will be drilled into the plug to allow the air to be evacuated from the tight corners of the initials.
The shapes will then be vacuum formed and then cut out so that there is a lip on the edge of the shape, to stiffen it. It is likely that this will be done by staff.
While this is going on we will have experimented with the conditions seed requires to germinate and will set up the following. Dry seeds on dry paper, dry seeds in a container and seeds on damp paper. The week after this experiment is set out we will have a result.
The seeds will be sown in suitable conditions and their development noted. We will pull up the odd seedling so we can see and draw it.
Ultimately we will make some egg and cress sandwiches to celebrate our work.
