Plan

Introduce the students to the idea of scale by asking how large a watch or bridge might be drawn out first.

The reasons for the construction of a scale model may then be discussed with reference to the surrounding buildings and area and the prevailing style, no monstrous carbuncles.

The students will then be asked to design their dream home on paper and produce several sketches. There is a need to have detail of the garden and perhaps a pool if required and swings etc. too. Will there be a gravel or brick drive etc.

The size of the plot is then explained and their model will occupy an area of one A4 sheet. THIS IS TO INCLUDE THE GROUNDS. Therefore if they want a mansion their model will be small and trees might be added whereas if it is a cottage the model may be larger an the grounds a little smaller, trees etc. will be a little larger than the mansions.

The construction techniques pertaining to the home will be demonstrated and particularly the fixing of the roof, which seems to be the most problematical part. Also covered will be wall papering the walls and roof with scale papers and the sand and gravel drives etc.

The students will be expected to show initiative in the construction of garden plants, furniture etc.
