Unit 5 Input & Output Peripherals
Unit 9 Using Graphics (Computer Drawing)
Unit 12 Information And Its Effects On Society
There are four sections containing work books designed to fulfil the units required for the CoA in IT. If you intend to enter students for the CoA in IT then you will need the booklets for the three compulsory units - word processing, databases and spreadsheets - that are available from AQA (NEAB).
Six units should be attempted for the CoA and I chose the above four as the most appropriate for delivery to MLD students. Three out of the four listed need to be completed but unit 12 must be included if students are to be awarded a level 3. This satisfies the level descriptive for level 3 where the final statement requires a student to understand their own use of IT and its use in Society.
All the units can be delivered independently and accredited through the AQA (NEAB) Unit Award Scheme.
The workbooks are not intended to be learning packages and require some discussion, support and possibly other activities included in the overall approach. They are more of a framework to ensure the outcomes for the units are satisfied. If they are not appropriate to your situation hopefully they will give you ideas for your own approach.
Unit 9
The unit is now called Using Graphics, but this booklet (Computer Drawing) took a lot of time up designing and writing only for the Exam Board to change the specifications of the unit. I think it still useful as a stand-alone project and can be used to create graphics for use in the CoA unit "Using Graphics".
This booklet asks for comments on moral, social, and ethical issues. In the past I have discussed a selection of issues as a group and students then choose from a list of issues to complete the worksheets.
Please feel free to change any of the units to suit your circumstances. If you have any comments either positive or negative, please let me know.
