WW2 Transition & MFL Resource

The purpose of this resource is to assist teachers to help pupils foster an intergenerational and trans-national understanding
of social relationships in the context of a major world event (WW2).

The resource includes 5 distinct themed units of work from KS2 to A level. Also included is an exclusive commissioned video resource. The various resources support MFL / Literacy / Citizenship / Thinking Skills / History and ICT.

Throughout the site there are various word, powerpoint and publisher documents that can
be downloaded, there are two ways of accessing these:

Interview Videos
Below are explanations of the controls for the video resources from the Citizenship Intergenerational
Learning section.

Units

1. Cross Curricular unit for Literacy with ICT and Thinking Skills for KS2 / 3.
2. Aspects of WW2 from a French nationals point of view, empathy relating to cultural differences etc for KS3/4.
3. Citizenship Issues based on ‘Kindertransport’ and the Jewish situation in Nazi Germany.

Literacy KS2/3 (Wartime Britain)

Powerpoint led resource pack covering Persuasive and Informative writing using Wartime 'real life' examples as a stimulus. This resource uses information from the Westall pack and Wartime public information leaflets.

Citizenship KS3 (Nazi Germany)

Video interview led pack of activities re: The Jewish situation in Nazi Germany.
The resource is broken down into:
1. Before Kristellnacht
2. Kristellnacht
3. After Kristellnacht
4. Leaving Germany
The pack uses exclusive video interviews with George Lobel and Jacob Goldsmith who were in Germany during Nazi rule.

History KS2 (Arctic Convoys and Evacuees)

The use of local archives to:
1. Discuss and evaluate the importance of oral history as evidence of past events.
2. Investigate, discuss and evaluate the importance of letters as evidence of past events

Thinking Skills KS2/3

There are four main approaches to using the resources provided with this pack. These are:
· Using a mystery
· Developing a Community of Enquiry approach
· Developing a Philosophical approach
· Using a variety of drama activities

This resource uses literary texts from Robert Westall and extracts from Goodnight Mr Tom.

MFL / French KS4 AS / A2
A Power point led resource on the occupation of France during World War II.

This power point presentation is mainly targeted at AS and A2 students studying French. Some tasks are appropriate for KS4 students as they are linked to areas studied in year 10 and 11. The unit offers a mixture of linguistic and cultural tasks. The notes provided in this resource will guide the teachers through different activities, including group work and audio-visual authentic material.
